FAQ

  • Where are paddling courses held?

With the rivers in Manitoba being Spring melt & rain-dependent, we have a few locations we like to use.

Your Instructors will make the final call on the location 1 week before your course and inform you via email. All rapids are up to a 2 hour drive from Winnipeg in the Whiteshell area. The Whitemouth River, Old Pinawa Dam, and Bird River are favourites

  • What kind of boat do I need for a course?

When paddling in moving water, it is important to paddle a boat that can handle all things rapids. We use Esquif canoes made of TFormex, a material similar to Roylex. This is ideal as it slides over rocks and has the right hull shape to move smoothly in rapids. Canoes that are made of aluminum or composites such as Kevlar might not fare so well with the rocks we have in and around our wonderful province. We have rentals available that are fully outfitted with knee pads, air bags, and thigh straps to set you up for success!

  • What if none of your course dates work for me?

Life gets busy and don't we know it! If your availability doesn't match our course calendar, contact us and we can look into booking a private course. Private courses are a minimum of 4 people so it's a great time to find some friends and book it through us!

Going on a specific trip? Let us know and we can even tailor the course curriculum to your paddling needs!

  • I want to do Moving Water Level 1 but I don't know how to steer a boat

Don't stress, this happens more than you'd think. Just because you may have been in boats for years doesn't necessarily mean you've spend 50% of that time in the stern steering. Our Instructors are prepared to work with folks of all paddling levels to get you best prepared for your next backcountry adventure!

  • I have a dietary requirement, is that an issue?

We are no strangers to dietary needs. All your trip food will be prepped and prepared following Health Canada’s Food Handler Guidelines and will not only meet but hopefully exceed all expectations! Whether you’re Celiac, lactose intolerant,

  • What gear do I need for your trips?

We send out a comprehensive packing list before all canoe trips going through how much clothing you'll need to be your most comfortable self in the backcountry.

Besides clothing, we take care of the rest! Tents, sleeping pads, sleeping bags, dry bags, we have everything else to support you on your adventure! You're welcome to bring your gear, but why not just use ours and save yours some wear and tear.

  • What if I don't know how to paddle white water before a canoe trip?

While moving water experience is recommended, depending on the trip it is not required. When scheduling our trips day-by-day, we always make a goal to spend time at a rapid early on to go over basic hydrology and technical paddling skills. As the trips progress, so do the learning opportunities! We want to make sure you can feel as comfortable as possible in and around white water
