Located on Treaty No.5 Land, The Manigotagan flows into the east side of Lake Winnipeg. A Phonetic Anglicization of the Anishinaabe phrase Mannuh-gundahgan, which means "Bad Throat". The place where the waterfall makes a noise like a bad sound in the throat. The legend is that this eerie sound came from Wood Falls, just upstream from the mouth of the river.
